Plunge Boom are Artistic Director Ben Faulks and Managing DirectorMimi Faulks. Jon McGrath is our Theatre Director, and we an incredible incredible team of performers and artists who work all over the UK and Europe.
Julia has worked with Plunge Boom since 2008. She loves nothing better than taking the Vegetable Babies out for the day, or cooking up a stink in the Trolls Kitchen. She is an experienced street performer and loves touring the UK and beyond with the Plunge Boom team. Before training as an actor, Julia studied languages and is always keen to take the shows to areas where she can try out her French and Spanish skills on anyone willing to listen!
Julia trained at The Poor School in London and since 1996, she has been working professionally in theatre, TV, film, radio, voice, corporate and roleplay. She has also trained extensively in the Russian system of actor training, Meyerhold’s Biomechanics, under Russian theatre director Gennadi Bogdanov. Theatre includes productions and readings at Chichester Festival Theatre, The Royal Exchange Theatre, The Royal Court, Unity and Everyman Theatre, Liverpool. She has also toured with many theatre companies, including her own company Motion Loco, for whom she also wrote and produced. TV includes “Roger Roger”, “I’m with Stupid”, “Emmerdale” and a number of commercials. Julia is passionate about voice work and has appeared in over 35 plays for BBC Radio 3 and 4.
Matt has worked with Plunge Boom since 2016. He trained at Bretton Hall, and has since worked as a performer, primary school teacher and drama specialist practitioner. He has considerable experience of ‘drama for learning’ in schools and cultural organisations, and now runs North West Drama, an organisation which supports the development of drama based practice in the classroom. Their flagship project is The Children’s Shakespeare Festivals, which engages primary schools across the North West of England with producing theatres in their local area.
As a performer, he has worked with Walk the Plank and appeared as the White Rabbit in ‘High Tea in Wonderland’ for Manchester International Festival 2015. He is delighted to be a fully fledged Plungeboomer, and is equally happy tending to his young vegetable charges as he is bravely leading expeditions to contain deadly outbreaks of Mancunian Pavement Weevils, going wherever such adventures may lead him.
Jonny is a relatively new addition to the Plunge Bloom Team and has had a wonderful year getting to know all the Veggies and perambulating around the country with them! David the Courgette is secretly his favourite (but don't tell Cindy the Pineapple or she'll get in a grump!).
Jonny has been working in physical theatre, mask, puppetry, and devised theatre for over 20 years. Having trained at Ecole LeCoq in Paris and at Bretton Hall, Jonny’s adventures have included performing award-winning mask theatre in Iran, Opera in Texas, Puppetry in Norway and Shakespeare in Singapore. Recent work includes International tours with Improbable Theatre's ‘Beauty and the Beast’, playing Caliban for The RSC and touring a 2-man version of Richard III for Kevin Spacey’s company visiting 8 different countries around the globe. He also created a solo show, 'Muzzle', which played to packed houses in the Uk and Germany. Jonny is an experienced mask and puppet maker and made puppets for 'Billy Elliot the Musical' in the West End & Broadway. He also works as a professional illustrator and is currently building his own 90-foot houseboat from scratch! He tends to be very busy!
Thomas Byrne is an actor, musician, and puppeteer based in Stretford, Manchester. Since graduating from the University of Salford with a first-class honours in Drama and Theatre he has helped to set up and establish ‘Scallywags Theatre Company’, who are dedicated to producing exemplary theatre for children of all ages/abilities, and their families. He has also worked with Horse and Bamboo Puppet and Mask Theatre, Whalley Range All Stars, and is delighted to be part of the Plunge Boom team this year!
Tom also helps to manage and write articles for ‘No Strings Attached’, a website dedicated to providing free information and advice about how to build puppets and masks.
